Mysore Memories

I long to be here again, under the shade of the mango tree, on the granite steps, crows crowing overenthusiastically above, the swift waters rippling over the rocky river bed...

Incredible. Loved the Mini Cooper story. Tell me something, I have seen quite a number of pics here, while some, to use the Henri Cartier Bresson expression are offsprings of the "decisive moment", some look too pretty, do you air-brush? I mean, don’t get offended al ready, just curious. Say for example, cabin by the tree-2, looks like a Tarsem Singh dream. Some of your pics could be an “ethnicised negative” of an Ansel Adams photograph. It’s wonderful but could it have looked spookier without the coloring or was it essential to bring the portrait alive? Your eye for people is joyous, celebratory. How about some dichotomy in that. Like for instance, this morning on my way to work, I saw an old Rajasthani man reclining on an emerald green wall, walking stick aside, and a blazing orange turban offsetting and shadowing his craggy face in the shade of an emerging sun. Would that interest you to take a shot or is it too Raghu Rai, National Geographic?

I saw your profile too rachna. I guessed who ever is ash's best-friend is rachna! ;-)

Keep visiting white willow! :-)

Hmmm... manish, that's a lot of food for thought! :-)

Good to know you liked my work...
But how could you compare these with the work of a great like Ansel Adams???

If you are talking about the smoothness of texture, I do remove the incredible amount of noise and greain texture that many snaps have especially when taken in non-ideal conditions (you see I still use print film a lot...) using a noise/texture filtering software...

If you are talking about the unnatural colors for some snaps, that's coz I do postprocess a lot using image editors and I treat my snaps like they were paintings. You must have seen the post: hhttp://vikkiwrites.blogspot.com/2005/10/truth-vs-fine-art-photography.html where I have written about this...

I retained the true color for the cabin so as to have a dash of color to the otherwise extremely depressing visual...

Hmmm.. that rajasthani man would certainly interest me anyway. It wouldn't matter to me whether it is 'Raghu Rai' or 'national geographic'-ish, i would take a snap if i felt like at that moment... I am very blank about other things when I am taking a snap...

Keep visiting, Manish! :-)

got it, thanks, so now its a case of portrait of an artist as a lens man! Heh heh, cool, i read that post on "photographic scruples."

Im most dazzled by "intelligent photography" Names like Prabuddha Dasgupta, Herb Ritts, David La Chapelle, Annie Leibovitz, Helmut Newton, do they ring a bell?

Anyways, I havent really come across photographers who blog, then again, everybody with a Flickr account is a photoblogger. Do you know any big names who photoblog?

Oh and one more question, would you agree that there are images in your head, no matter how perfect the shot is, you can never fit them in the frame, even when you are actually shooting.

Ok let me put it like this, can you show me a photograph of yours that is widely popular, but you personally are displeased by its appearance, and what was missing in it.

Too much eh, asking too much am I?

Manish, I am enjoying the challenge! :-))

First and last names do ring a bell, especially Helmut Newton coz recently I did come to know about him when he was in the news (with his death, ironically).. Prabuddha, I just checked out his webpage now!! Cool! But I did recognise a lot of ad campaigns that I grew up with on his site!

I have seen good stuff in flickr but nothing mindblowing...

Do take a look at photo.net for some mindblowing/inpiring works....

I can show you a LOT of my snaps and point to you a LOT of things wrong with them technically and aesthetically... they are too many, you will have to sit (without falling asleep) and listen while I go on and on...

:-D
