Sigur Rós

The new face of rock. The saviors of rock. Taking rock music into the new millennium. Overtly melodramatic (actually, I like melodrama!!). These are the things being said about Sigur Rós. I am completely entranced by their music and learnt this when I started searching information on these people out of curiosity. I think the only reason for their not being as popular as they should be could be due to the fact that the music scene is simply dominated by the US.

Interestingly, one of their albums is an abstract work. It is simply named ( ) and the songs have no names and no lyrics. Essentially meaningless gibberish that the singer sings with the music and we just have to make of it what we want to. Abstract music...

About three of their tracks were featured in the Tom Cruise starrer 'Vanilla Sky'...

@arunima, you might have a point there.

My conclusions are based on the videos that are played on TV, especially the most watched music channels like MTV, Vhs etc. and among those how many are from Europe and other countries how many from the US...

I have heard some really beautiful tracks from Europe which will never be played in our music channels either just because they are not sponsored by any major music label, or they are not in English, or some other reason. And aren't the most powerful record labels mostly in the US?

Isn't media itself dominated by US? Do we ever hear about what happened in Canada's elections? LOL! :)

Correct me if I am wrong...

PS For all these years I have lived down by the sea above these huge cliffs. I just never knew that if you through yourself off you could fly so I will give it a go this morning!

(Not really! The tide is out this morning so I will wait until the sea is in just in case it does not work and then I can have a soft landing)

Hi ,

I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be wow.. u write well.. Why don't you popularize it more.. ur posts on Drishyanvesh took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;

BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!

This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)

Cheers,
